About Us
J L Nobbs was established in 1935 by the current owner's grandfather. Throughout this time we have been a newsagent, stationer and bookseller, although before the advent of supermarkets and the proliferation of different brands of stationery, the range of goods we stocked was much wider, including silver, luggage and household items.
The current owner Julianne Evans is passionate about carrying on the family tradition of providing a lively retail hub of Haslemere, offering a wide range of products and services.
Our position on the High Street and the friendly family atmosphere means that the shop is always busy and we've built up a loyal customer base.
Children have always loved the shop because of its 'Aladdin's Cave' quality and the same children return as adults with their own children for cards, gifts, stationery, books and magazines.
J L Nobbs supports local charities by putting collecting boxes at the till points and is a patron of Haslemere Museum. We have always valued our staff, and for at least four local families we have employed up to four generations of the same family, sometimes at the same time! There is a strong family feel at J L Nobbs and we are proud that in March 2006 we achieved Investors in People recognition.
